Effects of Folium Pini on Obese Rats Fed High Fat Diet

Abstract
|
|
|
Objectives: This study was performed to investigate the effects of Folium Pini water extract on lipid and glucose metabolism, correlation insulin between leptin and histological change of the obese rats.
Methods and materials: Each of 10 rats was devided into a normal, control and sample group. We fed a control group of rats a high fat diet and administered normal saline for 8 weeks. And we fed an experimental group of rats a high fat diet and administered an extract of Folium Pini for 8 weeks. At the end of the experiment, the rats were sacrificed to determine their chemical composition. Folium Pini was examined in effects of lipid of blood serum, blood sugar, blood insulin concentration.
Results:
1. Serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL-cholesterol and glucose of sample group were decreased compared with that of control group. Decreasing rates of sample group was significant(p<0.05).
2. Serum HDL-cholesterol, phospholipid, free fatty acid of sample group were decreased compared with that of control group. But decreasing rates of sample group was insignificant(p<0.05).
3. Serum leptin were increased compared with that of control group. Increasing rates of sample group was significant(p<0.05).
4. Serum insulin were increased compared with that of control group. But increasing rates of sample group was insignificant(p<0.05).
5. The average size of epididymal fat cell was decreased compared with that of control group. Decreasing rates of sample group was significant(p<0.05).
Conclusions: Folium Pini has influence on glucose and lipid metabolism. Also it works on correlation insulin between leptin. According to this results, we may suggest that Folium Pini obstructs increase of body fat, prevents diabetes and regulates a perverted appetite.
